Your paint and your priority
Tell us what bothers you when you wash or look at the car. The answer may be coating, preparation before coating, a physical film on exposed panels, or paint repair first. A short paint assessment prevents paying for a layer that cannot solve the mark underneath.
Suggested route Wash and decontaminate sound paint, then consider a named coating for the agreed surfaces. The benefit is easier routine cleaning and water behavior. Hard water can still spot, so the handover must explain prompt rinsing and drying.
Suggested route Inspect the clear coat and test a small area. A suitable correction stage may reduce wash marks before coating. Deep scratches, etching and weak or peeling clear coat need a different paint plan. Coating alone will not erase them.

Know the installed product
A label such as “nano,” “hybrid,” “multi-layer” or “graphene” is not an installation specification. Compare the exact coating and the work done to the car. A maintenance spray or wheel coating should have its own line on the proposal.
Get the manufacturer, full product name and SKU or product designation on the written quote and final invoice. Ask to see the applicable product sheet and UAE warranty document. A brand brochure alone does not tell you which system is available for your booking.

The finish starts underneath
The coating follows the surface underneath it. Start by looking at the paint in useful light. The preparation quote should match what the car needs, not add polishing stages by default.
Record repainted panels, chips, peeling clear coat, old film or coating, water spots and wash marks before treatment. That record makes it easier to agree on what can improve and which marks will remain visible.
Remove loose dirt and inspect the finish. Bonded contaminants such as tar or iron fallout may need a suitable decontamination step. Dry seams and edges so residual water does not interrupt application.
If wash swirls or water etching concern you, assess clear coat and test a small area. A light refinement may help, while deeper defects, thin clear coat and failing paint may call for separate correction or paint repair. Approve any added work and its result limit first.
Mask sensitive trim, remove residues and use the coating maker’s panel-preparation method. Fresh paint may need the paint shop’s waiting period. Matte or satin paint and existing PPF require a product approved for that substrate; routine polishing of gloss clear coat does not create a matte finish.
Follow the chosen product’s working conditions and layer sequence. Inspect under suitable lighting for high spots or missed areas, then observe its initial hold and water-exposure instructions before release.
A nearly new car with sound paint may need cleaning and application with little or no abrasive work. A damaged panel may need repair before coating is sensible. Price those paths separately.
Put the panels in writing
A paint-only quote is not a glass, wheel and trim package. Agree the covered areas before work starts so the invoice and warranty identify exactly what was treated.
List the bumper, hood, roof, doors, tailgate and any excluded repaired panels. Clarify whether jambs, door edges and difficult recesses are included. A small spot correction should not be presented as a full multistage polish.
Wheel-face treatment is different from removing wheels and coating barrels. State whether tires and brake parts are excluded, and when the vehicle can be washed after installation.
Only use a product permitted for each substrate. Confirm windshield suitability and wiper behavior with the maker’s instructions. Headlights or taillights may need a separate compatible treatment.
Unpainted plastics, rubber seals, matte film and PPF may each require a different product or no coating. Test compatibility, record existing damage and identify maintenance products for those areas.
A customer can sensibly choose paint only, or add specific surfaces after seeing the separate labor and materials. The quote should show what was left untreated as clearly as what was included.
Plan the workshop visit
Cleaning, correction and coating application are work stages. The initial sheltered hold and later wash restrictions are product instructions. A quoted collection time must account for both rather than treating the coating’s cure figure as the whole appointment.
Send the car model and goal. Inspection or a test area can settle whether correction is justified and which defects will remain.
Contamination, old protection and correction can add work. Fresh paint may require a waiting period before the workshop can start.
The named system sets application conditions and early water exposure. Check the finish for high spots before handover.
Get the first-water and first-wash instructions in writing, along with any maintenance visit required by the selected warranty.
Confirm availability, the expected collection window and how rain or outdoor parking affects the selected product before booking. The preparation and prescribed hold determine the visit length.
Know what it cannot prevent
A coating is not an abrasive shield. Dirty mitts, dry wiping and automatic brushes can mark the surface. Use a clean wash process and inspect paint before applying new protection.
The thin treatment will not absorb a meaningful road impact like a compatible PPF film. If front-end chips matter most, compare a defined film coverage plan and its edges.
Beading can leave concentrated droplets in intense sun. Hard water may spot or etch a coating and sometimes the underlying finish. Rinse and dry, then assess stubborn marks before using acidic cleaners or polish.
Bird droppings, insect residue and industrial fallout still need timely removal. A surface treatment changes cleaning behavior; it does not make the paint maintenance-free. The installed product’s chemical tolerance and recovery method should guide any specialist decontamination.

PPF may be coated when the film and coating makers permit the combination. The film’s own warranty and any topcoat warranty remain separate. Repainting or clear-coat failure needs paint work first; a coating cannot seal a failing finish into a sound one.
For an existing XPEL film, review the XPEL warranty terms before selecting a coating. They list non-XPEL branded ceramic coatings among the exclusions. Confirm the exact pairing and regional eligibility in writing.
Plan for real ownership
At collection, ask for the first-water and first-wash dates for the installed product. There is no universal 24-hour or seven-day rule. Keep the care instructions with the invoice so anyone who washes the car follows the same plan.

Follow the maker’s water-exposure, sheltered-parking and cleaning instructions. If the car gets wet unexpectedly, ask the installer how to handle it for that system rather than wiping or washing against the written guidance.
Pre-rinse grit, use clean wash media and a compatible shampoo, then dry with clean soft towels. Avoid hot panels and direct sun. Mineral-rich water can dry into spots even on a hydrophobic surface.
Remove bird droppings and insect residue promptly without rubbing dry dirt. If water behavior weakens, check contamination and the products used. Reduced beading alone does not prove coating failure. Abrasive polish can reduce or remove the coating.
A spray topper may be optional or prescribed by the selected system. Ask for its name, interval and price. It should not be presented as the installed base coating.
If the warranty requires checkups, record their timing and cost when you choose the package.
A term you can use
“Five years” means little without a named system, covered failure and a remedy. Keep the product terms and the installer’s workmanship promise as separate documents or clearly separate sections on the invoice.
Check whether the document applies in the UAE, when the term starts, whether authorized installation or registration is required, and what failure qualifies. Ask how a claim is assessed and what remedy the maker supplies.
Ask the workshop to state its own coverage period, how to report a high spot or missed area, when it will inspect, and whether cleaning, reapplication and labor are included for a valid claim.
Normal abrasion, water spots, accident damage, repainting, poor washing and chemical misuse may be outside the terms. A coating does not guarantee unchanged gloss or water behavior without maintenance. Ask whether any periodic service is mandatory and who pays for it.
