Carbon-look films differ in pattern scale, surface texture and sheen. A glossy finish catches stronger reflections, while a textured or more muted film changes how the pattern responds to light. A close photograph can look quite different from the same finish across a bonnet in daylight.
- Pattern
- The size and angle of the weave determine how prominent it looks across the panel.
- Surface
- A smooth, reflective finish and a textured finish have different appearances and care needs.
- Direction
- Adjacent panels need a consistent layout so the pattern does not change direction unexpectedly.
Compare a physical sample beside your paint and existing trim. Labels such as 3D, 4D or 5D alone do not tell you how a particular film will look or perform on your car.
A bonnet can become the main feature, while mirror caps create a smaller accent. Repeating the same pattern in several areas works best when its direction and sheen have been considered together.
