Named product comparison
Car Wrap Magnet Models and Specifications
Compare SpeedMag HD, BigMag HD, Power Slam and TeckWrap holders by published specifications, contact footprint, handle, pack size and delivered cost. Use the test basis behind each figure before treating a higher pull rating as a better tool.

Define the purchasing requirement before comparing models
Record the intended panel, lined-film arrangement, available holding area and release clearance. This establishes what a candidate tool must do. Standard wrap magnets require suitable magnetic steel, and separate adapters need their own compatibility check.
If you are still choosing between magnets and temporary tabs, use the magnet versus tape positioning guide. The comparison below addresses the next decision, which named holder provides the specifications and support you need.
Compare four models with identifiable specifications
The shortlist below uses named products and manufacturer information. It is not a hands-on performance ranking: no comparative workshop test is claimed. Missing figures matter because a familiar brand name alone cannot tell you how a particular holder behaves through film and release liner.
| Model | Useful distinction | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Yellotools SpeedMag HD | 43 mm covered base; separate tensile and shear figures | Actual grip and safe release on your panel |
| Yellotools BigMag HD | 88 mm base and long handle for larger-format work | Footprint, clearance and sliding behavior |
| Geek Wraps Power Slam | Pair of purpose-made vinyl holders; refurbishment offered | Contact condition and service availability |
| TeckWrap wrap magnets | Rubber-based handled magnets in four- or eight-piece options | Grip, pack variant and current stock |
SpeedMag HD lists both pull and shear
SpeedMag HD has a rubber-like protective coating. Yellotools lists 10 kg tensile force and 3 kg shear force; these are manufacturer specifications, not payload allowances for a hanging sheet. The distinction is useful when comparing datasheets. Assess release effort as well as holding ability rather than ordering solely by the larger number.
BigMag HD has a larger contact footprint
Yellotools presents BigMag HD for large-format applications, with a long handle intended to keep distance from a folded-back print. Its listed tractive force is 56 kg. No separate shear figure was shown on the checked page. More nominal pull does not establish better positioning on a curved car panel. Check that the whole base can sit properly.
Power Slam offers refurbishment
Geek Wraps sells Power Slam magnets as a pair for holding vinyl on ferrous metal surfaces. The manufacturer offers refurbishment and asks customers to contact it for a price. That is a relevant ownership consideration if the contact faces wear with frequent use. Ask what shipping and service involve from the UAE; do not assume local refurbishment is included.
TeckWrap offers different pack sizes
The TeckWrap magnet listing describes a rubber base and offers four- and eight-piece selections. The retrieved description did not provide numerical pull and shear ratings. Ask for comparable specifications if those figures are important to your purchase. A larger pack can reduce the cost per holder, but it cannot establish that each holder suits the panel.
Read pull strength and sliding grip separately
Pull force acts away from the panel. Shear acts along it, as when a sheet and its holders start moving down a vertical door. These are different questions. A magnet that is difficult to pull straight off a surface may still slide when the sheet loads it in another direction.
K&J Magnetics explains its pull-force testing using thick, flat, unpainted steel. A car panel can be thinner, painted and curved. Paint, protective coating, vinyl and liner create separation from the steel, while incomplete contact changes the setup further. Its vehicle-sign measurements are not a performance test of the wrap holders compared here.

For buying purposes, request the test conditions alongside the rating: surface material, steel thickness, contact arrangement and force direction. Numbers from unlike tests should not be treated as a league table. If one listing provides tensile force and another simply says “strong hold”, you do not yet have a direct comparison.
The shape of the sheet also matters. An unsupported lower edge can tug differently from a small flat piece. A projecting fold can pull the holder away from the panel, and airflow can disturb loose material. Set up in a controlled workspace and support the sheet instead of treating a catalog figure as permission to leave it unattended.
A sensible purchase gives enough grip for the intended positioning stage while remaining controllable to remove. “Strongest available” is not a complete specification. Excessive release effort can make a small alignment adjustment harder, especially when you also need to support the film.
Inspect the contact face, footprint and handle
A covered face still needs to be clean
Rubber or another protective covering separates hard magnet material from the work surface. It does not guarantee scratch-free use. A metal fragment embedded in the covering can contact film or paint, and a torn edge can expose a hard part. Inspect both the base and the area where it will sit.
A bare workshop magnet is a poor substitute for a holder designed for vehicle graphics. Check that the covering is continuous, securely attached and replaceable if applicable. Use only compatible protectors specified for that holder. Adding an arbitrary thick pad may change its grip and make its behavior less predictable.
A larger base needs enough flat contact
Compare the base with the intended holding position, not the overall size of the car. A wide disc may suit a broad, flatter area yet bridge a body crease or narrow return. If it rocks, sits partly on trim or catches a panel gap, move the holding point and reassess the arrangement.
Look for a smooth edge that does not catch the liner while you adjust the sheet. Check whether the base obscures a graphic reference you need to see. Placement matters as much as diameter: covering an alignment mark can slow down a task even when the holder stays firmly attached.

Choose a handle you can release without dragging
Try the grip with the gloves you actually use. A short handle saves space; a taller handle provides more room for fingers. A ring offers another gripping shape. None is universally best. Make sure you can follow the maker's release method while controlling the holder and supporting the material.
A projecting handle can be knocked or pulled sideways. Keep it clear of the route used to lift or fold the film. Do not slide a dirty holder across the painted panel to move it. Lift and reposition it as directed, keeping your fingers out of the closing contact area.
Compare pack prices and the delivered cost
Manufacturer prices checked on October 8, 2026 are shown in their original currencies. They are reference list prices, not UAE delivered quotes. Availability, selected variant, shipping and tax treatment must be confirmed at checkout. Currency conversion alone would not establish the final AED cost.
| Product | Checked price | Basis and exclusions |
|---|---|---|
| SpeedMag HD | €7.33 | One holder; VAT and shipping excluded |
| BigMag HD | €52.30 | One holder; VAT and shipping excluded |
| Power Slam | US$87.45 | Two holders; confirm checkout tax and shipping |
| TeckWrap TW-DWQ-01 | US$19.99 | Four-piece selection; shipping extra, backorder shown |
The figures above come from the linked manufacturer listings. No price for TeckWrap's eight-piece variant is inferred from the four-piece option. Check the chosen variant before paying, and obtain the supplier's written total if delivery timing matters to a booked installation.
Compare the same quantity and specification across offers. An inexpensive generic set without clear dimensions, contact material or return terms may be difficult to assess. A premium price does not prove better grip either. Seek a product identity you can trace, useful instructions and a way to resolve a damaged or unsuitable item.
Consider ongoing costs alongside the initial pack. Replacement covers, compatible adapters, lost holders and overseas service can change the value of a set. Ask whether a replacement component fits your exact version. Do not assume that two similar-looking discs use interchangeable protectors or handles.
Build a set around the work you repeat
There is no reliable rule that every full wrap needs five, eight or ten magnets. Count the holding positions used in your actual workflow: initial alignment, support for loose edges and any planned handover between installers. A four-piece retail pack describes what you receive, not what every vehicle requires.
Start with a representative panel and observe whether the sheet can be controlled without overloading individual holders. Large graphics may need another person even with more magnets available. Adding holders cannot solve a nonmagnetic panel, poor contact or an unsuitable placement point.
For repeated workshop work, consistent holders make inspection and handling easier than an unplanned mixture. If you combine sizes, keep their roles clear and avoid assuming identical grip. Store a clean spare so a contaminated or worn holder can be taken out of use immediately rather than kept on the panel to finish the task.
Magnets are one part of a car wrap tool kit. Allocate space for cleaning materials and safe holder storage as well as the magnets themselves. Buying more holders while leaving their bases loose among blades and metal debris defeats the reason for choosing protected contact faces.
Check a shortlisted holder before relying on it
Ask the supplier for a demonstration, sample or suitable return arrangement where available. This practical check is about compatibility and handling; it does not certify a force rating. Use clean surfaces and representative lined film, with the sheet supported throughout.
- Confirm the intended panel. Establish the panel material and choose a broad, appropriate contact area. Avoid guessing from the vehicle badge or from another panel on the same car.
- Inspect the holder. Check the covering, edges, handle security and contact face for grit or metal particles. Set aside a damaged holder before it touches the vehicle.
- Reproduce the positioning stage. Use the intended film-and-liner arrangement. Changing layers between the demonstration and the real job changes the comparison.
- Watch the sheet while supporting it. Check for gradual sliding, rocking or a lifted base under normal positioning movements. Stop and reset if the alignment drifts; do not create an uncontrolled hanging-load test on paint.
- Check controlled removal. Follow the manufacturer's release method. Make sure you can lift the holder clear without dragging it or losing control of the loose material.
Record the model, panel, liner arrangement and observations. If you later change the protector or work on a different panel shape, reassess that combination. A successful demonstration on bare steel is useful information, but it does not answer every question about use through a lined wrap sheet.
Keep debris, heat and worn covers out of the setup

Metal particles can be surprisingly easy to miss on a dark base. Keep holders off dirty surfaces and check for metal particles before use. Make contact-face inspection part of each positioning session, especially after a holder has been dropped or stored loose.
Follow the maker's cleaning guidance for the cover material. Avoid scraping it with a blade or applying an unapproved solvent to remove stubborn debris. If particles remain embedded, the covering splits or the base develops a rough area, remove that holder from use and ask about replacement or refurbishment.
Keep holders away from the heat-treatment stage unless the product instructions expressly allow the intended conditions. SpeedMag HD lists a maximum operating temperature of 60°C. That is a limit for that holder, not an installation temperature recommendation for vinyl or a rating that applies to every magnet.
Use designated clean storage with the faces protected from loose hardware. Control the attraction between neighboring magnets when putting them away. Check the handle and any removable fittings periodically; a loose grip makes removal less controllable even if the magnetic base still appears sound.
If a holder begins slipping, check the panel, contact face, liner arrangement and unsupported sheet before buying a stronger replacement. A rocking base or wrong panel material needs a different setup. A damaged cover needs attention. Increasing the nominal pull rating does not automatically address either problem.
Common questions
Can car wrap magnets scratch paint?
Yes. A protected base can still carry grit or metal fragments, and a damaged covering can expose a hard edge. Inspect the holder and surface, follow the release instructions and avoid dragging the magnet across paint. No holder should be treated as a guarantee against scratches.
Will wrap magnets work on aluminum or plastic panels?
A standard magnetic holder will not attach to aluminum, plastic, glass or carbon fiber as it does to magnetic steel. Check each panel. A compatible adapter or another positioning method needs its own suitability assessment; a stronger magnet alone does not change the panel material.
Why does a high-rated magnet still slide down the door?
The quoted figure may describe pull away from a test plate rather than shear along a painted panel. Panel thickness, curvature, protective layers and the sheet arrangement change the setup. Read the test basis and inspect actual contact before relying on the figure.
How many magnets do I need for wrapping a car?
Base the set on the holding positions and support needed for your workflow. There is no universal count for a full vehicle. Pack size is a purchasing detail, and a large sheet may still require a second installer even when several holders are available.
Can I leave the magnets in place while heating the film?
Check the exact holder instructions and remove positioning aids before the heat stage where required. Do not assume a rubber-covered magnet is heatproof. A maximum operating temperature is product-specific and does not tell you how to heat or post-heat the vinyl.
Can stronger magnets remove wrinkles from wrap film?
No. Magnets are temporary positioning aids. They do not correct film tension, conform the vinyl or activate the adhesive. If the sheet is pulling awkwardly, support it and reset the positioning stage rather than using the magnets as stretching fixtures.
